Barrett KLB-100 bitumen utilizes nano-technology engineering to produce the highest quality polymer-modified roofing asphalt on the market. It is manufactured using a heal and weathering resistant Kraton® SEBS rubber polymer with an un-oxidized asphalt base, specifically selected for its compatibility with The SEBS polymer system. The SEBS rubber material's web-like molecular structure creates a microscopic, elastic network of strong, rubberized strands with tough, interlocking styrene end blocks. During the polymerization process, the polymer network absorbs the asphalt light ends, producing a rubberized waterproofing material with properties that are far superior to regular oxidized roofing grade asphalt. The formulation and manufacturing process yields an elastomeric material with significantly better adhesion, elongation, elasticity, low temperature flexibility, strain energy, and self-healing properties when compared to conventional oxidized roofing asphalts, coal tar and less compatible bitumens or lower polymer content modified bitumens. This product's unique physical properties offer superior performance and durability, even in the presence of ponded water and severe climate variations. The use of Barrett's polymer-modified roofing bitumen in combination with appropriate modified bitumen membranes, polyester or fiberglass pry sheets or cap sheets, delivers a compatible composite roofing membrane with extraordinary toughness, puncture and impact resistance. KLB-100 bitumen is recommended for buildings intolerant of water intrusion, requiring optimum performance and limited maintenance. The high performance of KLB-100 does cost more than regular oxidized roofing asphalt which is more than offset with a lower life-cycle cost, it is a long-term lowest cost solution and environmentally desirable.
