Exterior Insulation Finish System (EIFS) is a multi-layered finish that has been used on commercial buildings and residential houses in the United States for over 30 years. There are 3 layers to EIFS: The Inner, Middle and Exterior layers The Inner layer is made up of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) EPS for the EIFS system is a polystyrene board with a thickness that ranges from 3/4" - 4" typically. The weight of the board is 1lb density and comes bundled accordingly to achieve a certain square footage. The EPS for EIFS is also available in a drainage board. The drainage board has grooves cut into the back of the board which creates a drainage cavity between the supporting wall and the foam to prevent water damage.
